This intensive is beyond resume building.. Be stronger, faster, safer! This intensive will begin with a Gyrokenesis and Gyrotonic class. Sharon will then conduct a ballet technique class to assess the areas that will benefit the students most. Each day will end with a different class that addresses specific areas for dancers to succeed in the industry. Monday and Tuesday will be a nutrition class. Wednesday will be a career and education seminar. Thursday will offer a restorative yoga class and Friday will end with a myofacial release class.
This incredible intensive will offer a skill building, mind building, and artistry building week.
Sharon Wehner is originally from San Jose, California, and had her fundamental ballet training with San Jose Dance Theatre, Dance Theatre Seven, and San Francisco Ballet. A former Principal Dancer with the Colorado Ballet, Sharon has also danced with Amy Seiwart’s Imagery, the Oakland Ballet, the Washington Ballet, and Zikr Dance Ensemble. She has performed as a guest artist in the Tokyo Aoyama Ballet Festival, the National Ballet of Japan’s Golden Ballet Co-Star, and the Vail International Dance Festival’s International Evening of Dance. As a Principal Dancer, Sharon has performed numerous leading roles in classical and Neo-classical ballets, including the principal roles in Swan Lake, Giselle, Don Quixote, The Nutcracker, The Sleeping Beauty, Romeo and Juliet, Coppelia, A Midsummer Nights Dream, Rodeo, The Leaves are Fading, Dracula, Rubies,Theme and Variations, and Stars and Stripes. She has had the honor to be featured in new works by Christopher Wheeldon, Val Caniparoli, Amy Seiwart, Edward Liaang, Jessica Lang, Dwight Rhodan, and Graham Lustig. After retiring from her 22-year career with the Colorado Ballet, Sharon is spreading her wings as a freelance artist, exploring new territory in classical and contemporary choreography that speaks to her and to audiences in a fresh and stimulating way.
In addition to her career as a dancer, Sharon is a Ballet Teacher, certified Sports Nutrition Coach, GYROTONIC® and GYROKINESIS® trainer, Yoga instructor, Reiki Master, and Instructor for Dance for Parkinson’s Disease. In 2020, she was inspired to create RISE: The Empowered Dancer, a holistic mentoring program for teen and pre- professional dancers, to help young women cultivate health and mindset tools that support the demands of rigorous dance training. She believes that incorporating professional experience, kinesthetic and anatomical understanding, and the wisdom of other movement techniques into traditional ballet training creates a strong, healthy, resilient, and artistically masterful dancer. Sharon has taught Ballet for over 25 years, for numerous schools and companies, including Colorado Ballet, Ballet Arts Austin, Yellowstone Ballet, The Russian Ballet Academy, Vermont Ballet, Denver Academy of Ballet, International Ballet School, Sweatshop Dance, Burke Civic Ballet, Littleton Ballet Academy, and is excite to be joining Dancers Center for Training for their summer intensive.
