The Barbara F. Cullen Musical Theatre Training Program

Musical Theatre is wildly popular in our region. To be successful you must become what we like to call the quadruple threat. Meaning that you train in the three disciplines of theater, voice, and dance, with the fourth element combining all three with an emphasis on acting. We understand that all performers have their strong areas and other areas that need to be discovered – or areas that need a more rigorous approach in training. Students in our training program find success in admissions to performing arts schools, summer intensives, and are cast in local and regional amateur and professional productions!

THE BARBARA F. CULLEN MUSICAL THEATRE SCHOLARSHIP

PAL began with the vision of Beth Craig Hall and Barbara F. Cullen. “Barb,” as everyone who knew her, was a force of nature and the kindest, most supportive, and encouraging teacher on the planet. Barb believed that the best talent lived in our community and she dedicated her life to creating art for that community.

Barb’s vision was to provide consistent top-of-the-industry training–something she had not found locally. And she knew what was needed to help raise the bar. Barb was the epitome of class, grace, and unwavering standards.

Barb passed away suddenly on December 18th, 2020. After this devastating loss, DCT renamed the musical theatre program the Barbara F. Cullen Musical Theatre Training Program and offered a scholarship to a high school student to train in the three disciplines Acting, Dancing, and Singing. Barb believed you had to train in all three to succeed and access to that training was key. This scholarship helps provide impeccable training to a student who exhibits some of the same qualities as Barb–a disciplined, passionate, servant-leader!
